Be a Reporter: Any County News Contributor Guidelines
Film yourself. Send it raw. We make it news. Send up to 90 seconds. We clean it up, post it, and send you a copy you can use anywhere, including your own social media.
What we want
- You on camera, talking about what's going on where you are: weather, storms, game nights, fairs, festivals, openings, road work, local happenings.
- The scene around you: the sky, the water, the crowd, the damage after a storm once officials say it's safe.
- Real and current. Say your town and the day. Hold the phone upright (vertical) and steady.
- Raw is fine. Don't edit, don't add music or filters. Send the whole clip, up to 90 seconds.
What we don't want
- Anything you didn't film yourself, or a screen recording of TV or someone else's post.
- Blood, injuries, bodies, or anyone in medical distress.
- Faces of kids under 18 unless their parent or guardian says OK.
- Private places without permission: inside homes, schools, hospitals, or people's yards.
- Fake, staged, or old video passed off as new.
- Threats, hate, nudity, or anything illegal.
Safety first (always)
- Never go out in a storm or danger for a video. Film only where you're already safe.
- Stay indoors or on a sheltered porch during storms. Never drive into or stand in flood water.
- Film damage only after officials give the all clear. Stay away from downed power lines.
- We never pay more for a riskier shot. No video is worth getting hurt.
Police, fire and crime scenes
- Never cross tape, block roads, or get in the way of police, fire, EMS or road crews.
- Follow every instruction from officers and first responders.
- Film from a public place and a safe distance, or don't film.
Fair to everyone
- Say what you see. Don't guess about what happened or who did it.
- Don't call anyone guilty. People charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
- Don't name anyone who was hurt, killed, or arrested. We confirm names with official sources.
Who can send
- You must be 18 or older.
- No kids' faces without a parent's or guardian's OK.
