UPDATE on this story: Bleckley sheriff — juvenile also talked about a church 'active event'

Bleckley County, Georgia (Cochran) — Sheriff Daniel Cape's office says investigators learned more after a juvenile was taken into custody Thursday, September 17, 2026, over a reported school shooting threat involving Bleckley County schools.

Thursday: The Bleckley County Sheriff's Office and the FBI's Macon Resident Agency investigated what they described as a serious and active threat. The juvenile was taken into custody. Bleckley County Middle School said students and staff were never in danger. Reports said custody was about 1:30 p.m. on school grounds and no weapons were found.

Friday update: Investigators determined the juvenile also expressed plans for an "active event" at a church. Officials said no specific church was identified and no date or time was given. The juvenile remains in Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice custody. The sheriff's office is working with federal partners.

Any County News is not naming the juvenile. Custody is not a finding of guilt. This is an ongoing investigation.
