Albany, Georgia — Breaking: Driver fleeing ICE hit on Liberty Expressway
Early Thursday (~5 a.m. Sept. 17), federal ICE agents attempted to stop a van on the Liberty Expressway near the Moultrie Road exit in Dougherty County, according to reporting from WRDW citing the Georgia State Patrol and Dougherty County Police.
What GSP said (via WRDW/WALB):
The driver of the van fled on foot in the median in between the Expressway and the exit ramp. An ICE agent was traveling in the median in his patrol car. The fleeing driver fell to the ground in the median and became lodged under the ICE agents’ patrol car.
That is GSP’s wording — lodged under an ICE agent’s patrol car — not a claim that a Georgia State Patrol cruiser struck the person. GSP is handling the investigation.
Dougherty County Police said ICE agents are still looking for two other people who were reportedly in the van. The investigation is active. WRDW’s Facebook tip also reported the person was taken to a South Georgia hospital with serious injuries.
WRDW/WALB reported the family identified the injured person as Edgar Cabrera Gomez; the family disputes that he was the driver. This report leads with GSP’s “driver” / “a person” framing and does not invent age, charges, or immigration status beyond what agencies stated.
