Valdosta, Georgia — Lowndes Dems issue ICE enforcement statement
The Lowndes County Democratic Party (LCDP) issued a FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE statement dated Sept. 17, 2026, on immigration enforcement actions in Valdosta this week that, according to the party, resulted in the detention of multiple community members.
What the party said (attributed to LCDP):
- Disturbed by reports of enforcement resulting in detention of multiple community members.
- Immigrant and Latino neighbors are part of the fabric of the community.
- Recognizes federal authority while calling for dignity, due process, and fairness.
- Concerned about fear in the community; stands with families.
- Calls for transparency and constitutional rights.
- Encourages neighbors to look out for one another, share accurate information, and seek legal assistance.
Context (separate public reporting — not the party statement):
WCTV, citing Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk, reported that ICE personnel operated in the Lowndes County area Wednesday morning (Sept. 16) for about four to five hours; that ICE picked up several people held in Lowndes County Jail on a detainer; and that three or four people were also taken into custody for what Paulk described as administrative issues. A chase during the operation left a suspect at large, according to LCSO via WCTV. An ICE Atlanta & Charlotte Field Offices spokesperson confirmed immigration enforcement operations in South Georgia. WALB also covered the ICE chase in Lowndes County. This report does not invent detention totals beyond the party’s “multiple” wording for the statement lead, and does not name detained individuals.
