Family members identified after deadly I-16 crash in Bryan County
According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, to Interstate 16 eastbound near mile marker 143 in Bryan County after a 2017 Ford F-250 crashed into the back of a stopped 2018 Kenworth tractor-trailer and pushed it into a second stopped Mack truck.
Authorities said the Ford's driver, a front-seat passenger and a back-seat passenger died at the scene, and four children were rushed to Memorial Health in Savannah.
Family members later identified those who died as Tim Roundtree, his wife Kelsey Roundtree, their son Orion Roundtree, and Tim's aunt, Dr. Hollie Matthews. Emanuel County Institute confirmed Orion was a seventh-grade student.
Relatives said three surviving children were alive, awake and communicating Thursday.
The crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
