Valdosta police: Bystander shoots man accused of beating woman inside Dollar General
The Valdosta Police Department says a caller reported a man beating a woman at the Dollar General in the 2100 block of Bemiss Road about 4:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. While officers were on the way, the caller reported that someone had been shot.
Officers found Tevin Jay Love, 32, inside the store with a gunshot wound to the torso. Detectives say Love had been striking his girlfriend in the head and also struck her teenage daughter before a 28-year-old shopper drew a firearm and tried to stop the assault. Police say the shopper fired once after Love charged at him and hit him.
Warrants on Love include felony terroristic threat, felony aggravated assault, and misdemeanor simple battery and simple assault. Love was listed in stable condition.
Chief Leslie Manahan praised the citizen's intervention. Any County News is not naming the teen.
Charged, not convicted: Charges are accusations. Love is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
